Grants
Since 2022 the Friends have awarded over £230,000 in grants to improve the hospital experience for patients and staff. To find out more information about the impact the grants have had please visit the What We Do pages.

We welcome applications from hospital departments. We consider requests for non-essential medical equipment, furniture and other items or projects that may improve patients’ experience while in hospital or aid staff in carrying out their jobs. We cannot normally support research staff training, attendance at conferences or any payments of money to individuals.

We have two grant schemes: Chair’s Grants – for small grants of less than £100 and Friends' Grants – for grants of over £100. In some circumstances the Friends will work with King’s College Hospital Charity for the award of larger grants or to complement grants given by King’s College Hospital Charity. Where grant requests are focussed on provision for paediatric services they may be referred to the Kingfishers Sub-Committee.
Chair’s Grants
We are keen to raise awareness of the Chair’s Grants Scheme among staff and encourage more people to apply. We know that clinical staff are under huge amounts of pressure, and may not have the time or energy to go through a lengthy grant application process.

If you have an idea for a small project or item that would improve patient experience, and costs less than £100, please complete the application form. Requests will be sent to the Chair as they are received, we aim to give you a decision within a week.
Friends' Grants
The Friends' main grant scheme is for requests over £100. We will usually consider requests for non-essential medical equipment, furniture, and any other item or project that may improve patients’ experience while in hospital or the ability of staff to carry out their jobs in improved conditions. To apply please complete the application form.

Applications are considered at Friends committee meetings which are normally held on the third Monday of every month (other than August). Applications should be submitted at least one week in advance of the meeting. You will be informed of the outcome soon after the meeting.
